Mayor of Lighthouse Point Sells Waterfront Home
May 28, 2026Story of the Sale: How the Marder Group Sold this Lighthouse Point Home
At The Marder Group, many of the buyers who call us are searching for more than just a home, they’re searching for the South Florida waterfront lifestyle.

That was exactly the case with the buyers of 2356 NE 26th Street in Lighthouse Point.
As waterfront specialists, our team spends a significant amount of time educating buyers on the differences between neighborhoods, canal systems, boating access, bridge restrictions, lot orientations, flood considerations, and long-term waterfront value. When these buyers first reached out to David Marder and Bridget O’Donnell at The Marder Group, they knew they wanted to live on the water, they just weren’t quite sure where that vision would lead.
Originally, the search started just shy of the $1.5M price point in neighborhoods like Riverland in Fort Lauderdale.
Riverland –Lauderdale Isles has become increasingly popular among buyers looking for larger lots, riverfront opportunities, and more value compared to some of Fort Lauderdale’s coastal neighborhoods. With its proximity to downtown Fort Lauderdale, Las Olas, and the airport, the area appeals to buyers wanting a balance between boating access and central convenience. For many buyers entering the waterfront market, Riverland – Lauderdale Isles is often one of the first neighborhoods we explore together because it offers a compelling entry point into South Florida waterfront living.
Over the course of nearly a year, however, the search evolved.
The buyers’ priorities became more refined. The budget slowly increased. What started as a search for a nice home gradually became a search for the home, one that truly fit the lifestyle they envisioned.
That evolution pushed the search further north into areas like Harbor Village in Pompano Beach and eventually Lighthouse Point.
Harbor Village is one of Pompano Beach’s most desirable waterfront communities. Known for its deepwater canals, larger homesites, and excellent boating access with no fixed bridges for many properties. Buyers are increasingly drawn to the neighborhood because of its proximity to the Hillsboro Inlet, evolving luxury market, and relative value compared to neighboring coastal cities. It became a natural progression in the search as our buyers became more focused on premium waterfront living and long-term lifestyle value.
Just when we thought we had narrowed down exactly what they wanted, we found ourselves navigating a competitive multiple-offer situation on another property.
At the same time, life outside of real estate was moving quickly.
The buyers had made the exciting decision to transition more fully to Florida, and they were also preparing to welcome a baby. Ironically, what initially felt like a setback ended up helping clarify exactly what mattered most. Rather than settling, we shifted focus toward finding something truly special — a home that felt permanent, unique, and worthy of such a major life chapter.
That search ultimately led us to …
Located in Lighthouse Point — one of South Florida’s premier waterfront boating communities — the property immediately stood apart. Lighthouse Point is highly sought after for its quiet residential atmosphere. Offering oversized waterfront lots, deepwater canals, and exceptional boating access to the Intracoastal and ocean. Unlike many waterfront neighborhoods in South Florida, Lighthouse Point has maintained a distinctly residential feel while continuing to see strong demand from luxury buyers seeking privacy, boating convenience, and custom-built homes.
This was not an impulsive purchase.
Over the course of four weeks, we toured the home four separate times. Every visit reinforced what made the property so special: the custom construction, the scale, canal placement, and overall quality of the home. In a fast-moving market where buyers often feel pressured to act immediately, this was a process built on patience, confidence, and certainty.
The timing made the story even more memorable.
The buyers’ baby arrived early, and shortly afterward, we submitted the offer on what would become their family’s next home.
2356 NE 26th Street is also a notable property within Lighthouse Point history. The home was custom built and owned by former Lighthouse Point mayor Fred Schorr. Positioned on one of the city’s most desirable canals, it represents the kind of waterfront property that rarely becomes available. Combining location, history, craftsmanship, and boating lifestyle into one extraordinary home.
At The Marder Group, these are the moments we love being part of most. Although the sale is done, we are excited to welcome our amazing customers to the neighborhood.
Helping clients navigate South Florida’s waterfront market requires more than simply opening doors. It requires deep knowledge of neighborhoods, waterways, boating considerations, resale value, and lifestyle fit. We are incredibly excited for our buyers as they begin this next chapter enjoying life on the waterways.
